Tommy Hilfiger Fall ’12

For his Spring ’12 show, I discussed Tommy Hilfiger’s rather sudden departure from the iconic and definitive American prep aesthetic that we’ve come to know and love from the brand which has resurrected itself over the past few years, to a decidedly more tailored, modern and European influenced one. And while I may have been on the fence for Spring, Tommy has certainly won me over with Fall ’12.

This is perhaps the most crisp and clean Tommy Hilfiger has ever been. And it feels like the first Hilfiger collection where creative consultant Simon Spurr’s influence has been most strongly felt. While there is no denying the strong military tone of the collection, the British Spurr’s history with stints at Yves Saint Laurent and Ralph Lauren have definitely come into play with the transformation of the tailoring at Hilfiger. And in retrospect, this is exactly what may have been needed to take the Hilfiger to the next level. The collection, finally, speaks for itself.
