Sailcloth bags are starting to pop-up in all sorts of places. Kevin Sharkey, Martha Stewart’s duke-of-decorating, wrote about how he’s in love with them. Selectism and Retro To Go fell in love with what they saw in a museum gift shop in London. And Drew and I have been keen on them for a while. We got our own sailcloth bag at Rugby (but designed by Sea Bags) a couple years ago. Sometimes we use it for trips to the beach, but mostly it makes a great accessory in our blue guest room.

I love them for their graphic simplicity, bright colors on crisp white and durability. You can find a sailcloth bag out there for almost any use — or just as a great piece to hang on the wall as art. They’re easy to find and inexpensive.

Where to find them
- London’s National Maritime Museum has duffel and hip bags made of sailcloth.
- William J Mills & Co. has totes, flight bags, duffels, and office bags — and they make them in a large range of bright colors.
- Second Wind Sails sells totes, courier bags, duffels, messenger bags, all of which can be customized with different graphics. As a bonus, they also have a great selection of pillows.
- Sea Bags sells totes of three sizes, with a range of graphic designs.
- Reiter8 has totes and pillows (and luggage tags!) available directly and through Etsy.

I’m super keen on the sailcloth bags (and pillows!) and went a bit overboard with the gallery below:

Nice collection of sailcloth bags… I thought you want to check out ours too. They aren’t like any of these that you’ve mentioned, because we use a different type of sailcloth, but the idea is the same. Strong. Simple. Awesome. And we have an Etsy shop too: raggededgegear.etsy.com

So sorry I haven’t replied until now. You’ve got great stuff. And you raise an important point, that sailcloth bags need not fall into a nautical theme. I need to take a closer look at your product when i have a free hour or so — it definitely got me excited to dig deeper.
Best,

Please check out my products also. I have been doing this since 2005, and have expanded to patio umbrellas and clothing.
Our patio umbrella was on Curb Appeal and in Men’s Life magazine.
Thanks.
