It’s here! A Single Man, Tom Ford’s film adaption of the Christopher Isherwood book, opened to raves at the Venice Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter says the story “centers on a gay man who, after the sudden death of his partner, is determined to persist in his usual routine, which is seen in the span of a single, ordinary day in Southern California.” Colin Firth plays George, the main character. Julianne Moore is Charley, his former girlfriend, confidante and neighbor. It’s coming soon to a theater near you: The Globe and Mail reports that “The Weinstein Company had agreed to buy U.S. and German rights for $1-million.”

You can watch the trailer at the top of the post. The Times of London’s review describes the film in great detail; they gave it four out of five stars, and said: “It’s no surprise that the feature film directing debut of fashion designer Tom Ford is a thing of heart-stopping beauty. He celebrates the male form with a sensual reverence.”
Ford told Reuters that he’s “terrified because in a way it’s the most personal thing I’ve ever done and it’s the thing that is the most expressive of who I am.” WWD also has an interview with Ford, where he talks about bout what drew him to the story and about his process of filmmaking.
