Michael Bastian / Gant
One of my favorite menswear designers, Michael Bastian, has entered into an agreement to create a co-branded line with Gant called aptly, Michael Bastian for Gant. The partnership is sure to give Michael broader exposure and create legions of new fans. “When I was thinking about doing a designer collaboration, every time I was in a store I would always end up at Michael Bastian,” said Ari Hoffman, chief executive officer of Gant USA. “He’s so Gant. This is such an authentic collaboration.” You. can read more on the partnership HERE in WWD.
Marc Carry’s It All
I need to go visit Marc. It’s been far too long since we’ve hung out. I’ve heard he has a gorgeous new bag for me.

Celebration

It’s coming. Madonna’s latest greatest hits collection, Celebration, is due to be released September 28. The compilation, her last album with current label, Warner Music Group, Corp., before she moves over to Live Nation in a deal reportedly worth $120 million will include a few new tracks, including “Celebration” which has been leaked for preview online. The album cover is fierce and has me very excited for what Madge has in store for us next.
“Madonna, who has racked up a record 37 top 10 hits as well as seven No. 1 albums (including her last four) on the Billboard Pop Charts, has given her fans yet another opportunity to “celebrate” her musical achievements. Today, Warner Bros. Records officially confirmed the September 29th release in the U.S. (September 28 outside U.S.) of “CELEBRATION” – the ultimate compilation of Madonna songs. The songs on “Celebration” have all been remastered and selected by Madonna and her fans. They cover the expanse of the Material Girl’s extraordinary career of hits including “Everybody,” “Express Yourself,” “Vogue” and “4 Minutes.” “Celebration” will be available in a two-CD set as well as a single CD. There will also be a “Celebration” DVD released simultaneously which includes the video visionary’s best videos including several that have never before been available on DVD.
“Celebration,” the CD will also include two new songs that were recently recorded in New York City. The first single, also titled, “Celebration,” co-produced by Madonna and Paul Oakenfold, will be released August 3rd. A video for the single, which will be included on the “Celebration” DVD was just filmed in Milan, Italy and was directed by long time Madonna collaborator Jonas (“Ray of Light”) Akerlund. Several dance club remixes of “Celebration” are already headed to the clubs. The song will also be available on CD and vinyl maxi. Radio will receive the “Celebration” single on August 3rd.”
Menswear In The Moment
The New York Times magazine is talking about some “standouts” in menswear right now, including Our Legacy, Assembly New York, and Naked & Famous Denim.

Banana’s Gone Mad

AMC and Banana Republic have announced a collaboration for the third season of the the most fashionable drama on TV, “Mad Men.”
“To celebrate the much anticipated third season of “Mad Men,” AMC and Banana Republic are launching a marketing partnership that will feature “Mad Men” in all of Banana Republic’s North American retail locations during the three weeks leading up to the season premiere on Sunday, August 16 at 10pm EST/CST. The campaign will mark the first time the national retailer has featured an original scripted drama series in-stores. The promotion will leverage the strength of both brands to cross-promote the upcoming season and showcase classic workplace fashion with a modern take from Banana Republic.”
Obsession – Superior Labor
I’ve noted the Superior Labor tote bags before on MD. Superior Labor is a gorgeous “americana” brand from Japan. J.Crew is now selling the engineer tote online for a mere $350. I’m trying to justify spending the cash on it, but keep coming back to the fact that I have a closet full of totes (thanks Jack Spade). On the other hand I just can’t stop thinking about it…and I know I’d get it if it were $100 cheaper with no question. Perhaps I’m being cheap…
Bottega Veneta Spring 2010

Hands down my favorite show from Milan. Bottega Veneta always shows beautifully, but Tomas Maier may have outdone himself with his Spring 2010 show. Taking us on a true urban safari in a new, authentic and gorgeous way that perhaps only BV can do right now. The collection is soft and current, blending high and casual style with ease. I am in love with the muted earth tones and then the explosion of the most extraordinary reds of the season. Bravo. I can’t narrow down my top 4 favorites, so check out the entire show at men.style.com. And the hair was kick ass!
