Today’s Obsession

Lusting over the Ralph Lauren “Henley” saddle shoes. For just a mere $575… The J.Crew version are a MUCH better deal, and they are on sale for $120. Mine are in the mail.
Calvin Provocateur

Calvin Klein Jeans has released its Spring/Summer 2009 campaign. As always, Calvin is being provocative and hoping that sex still sells even in a major recession. Old dog, same tricks? While I am all for a little skin and pushing boundaries, this doesn’t feel very fresh. Full campaign shots and video HERE
Quickfix: Mark Gets Married
I just couldn’t resist posting this. Mark Jabobs and Lorenzo Martone are getting married in June, in P-Town. After that, a December party in St. Barths. Woo-hoo. Sounds fun! This all according to Elle UK.
Quickfix: Jack Olive

Add this to the gotta-visit in NYC file: NYMag reports that Jack Olive has just opened in Soho. Looks like a lighter, modern take on the British men’s sports club. If the pix are any indication, it’s worth a visit. The goods:
The clothing is manufactured in Italy, mixing conservative pieces like cream sweater vests, seersucker suits, patterned silk ties, and cashmere knits with more casual items like Jack Olive denim and cotton button-downs in an array of pastels.
So far, they seem to be under the radar: no website that I can find, no blog posts, all very stealthy.

End of the World
Sometimes it’s in those quiet moments laying in bed on a rainy Sunday afternoon listening to music, rejuvenating, where you find the inspiration to forge ahead, change direction, and keep creating your life.
Check out Matt Alber and his amazing and inspiring album, Hide Nothing. His video for “End of the World” above.

More Than A Messenger
Some things are as classic as apple pie. Jack Spade is (while relatively new as compare to pie) just one of those things. You simply can’t go wrong. And whether it’s something from a new line or classic Spade creation, they are timeless, durable, and stylish as hell.
Quickfix: Kiehls Designs It Up
Kiehls has some wonderful products in simple retro-cool packaging. NYMag, though, says they’re designing it up with special packaging from Erykah Badu, Adrian Grenier, Kelly Slater and Parsons for their limited-edition collection. Normally I’d say it’s a gimmick but the packaging works and the sales benefit the Waterkeeper Alliance.

Vintage Style: Hollywood 1968

The best of Hollywood 1968 style has epitomized by Robert Evans, a VP at Paramount Pictures and producer of flims like Chinatown and The Cotton Club. The Selvedge Yard has found an amazing set of photos that show his super-stylish Beverly Hills pad.

Urban Outfitters Does A Continuous Lean’s Apt

Michael Williams, Mr. A Continuous Lean, had his apartment ransacked by the folks at Urban Outfitters. Okay, not ransacked exactly… Seems he went down to Urban’s HQ in Philadelphia to document the workspace of a buddy of his. Well, turn about is fair play and UO’s bloggers went and took a look at how he lives.

I’d be happy to have his place as my NYC stomping ground. In the words of SwipeLife, “practicing what he preaches, the home is full of iconic American tradition, and steers clear of any unnecessary clutter.”
One amusing note: even the plaid thermoses look sexy and modern. Says Williams: “I have the largest collection of plaid thermoses of any straight man on the planet.” Straight? Probably any man, period.
